Palazzo Giorgio Spinola

Built around the mid-sixteenth century, the palace was built in an area adjacent to that occupied by the convent of the Poor Clares of Santa Caterina and adjacent to Piazza Fontane Marose-Strada Nuova.

The architectural structure of the building was determined by the direct contact with the Renaissance architectural and decorative novelties, which took shape in the nearby yards at that time. In this context is inserted the spectacular sequence atrium-courtyard-nymphaeum-staircase, organized on two different levels, ending with a nymphaeum decorated with natural rocks, limestone concretions and a statue of a satyr.

Behind the nymphaeum the monumental staircase, a real backdrop in the atrium-courtyard-nymphaeum sequence.
