    Driving in Genoa

    Driving a car in Genoa can be difficult, due to the layout of the city. Thanks to its extensive public transport network, however, a car is not necessary to explore the city's tourist attractions.

    Visitors are advised to park in one of the city's numerous public car parks.

    Genoa's historic centre is protected by a Limited Traffic Zone (Zona a Traffico Limitato, or ZTL); driving through and parking in the ZTL is prohibited for vehicles of non-residents.

    Outside the ZTL, parking is regulated by the so-called "Blu Area" system: areas designated by blue pavement markings serve to ensure maximum availability of parking for residents. Within these "Blu Area" parking zones, non-resident vehicle parking is with time-based rates.
