Cats, the musical
From 18th to 21st February the musical masterpiece by Andrew Loyd Webber, Cats, will be on stage at Carlo Felice Theatre with an arrangement by Trevor Nunn, which will be put on scene by Cameron Makintosh’s acting company and The Really Useful Theatre; it will be co-produced by Politeama Genovese. Among innovations and the usual blend of fantasy, drama and romance.
The plot, based on Old Possum’s book of Practical Cats, the collection of cult poems by Thomas Stearn Eliot, is well known: the cats of Jellicle neighborhood are meeting for the annual ball. On this occasion Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent boss, will announce whom among them will have the honour to ascend to Heaviside Layer, the paradise of the Jellicle Cats. Nunn’s Cats goes further, blending classic and avant-garde tones in set designs, costumes and imaginative choreographies. The entire show will be enhanced by a live soundtrack performed by an orchestra and will include the unforgettable song Memory. The Genoese stage will open the Italian part of the European tour “Let the memory live again” which has already charmed London’s public and received several nominations for the latest Olivier Awards, which represent the “Oscar Awards” of the English theatre.
