The Genoese nativity scene’s tradition dates back to the early 17th Century and it developed so much over the years, that Genoa became soon one of the most important centers, beside Naples, for production of Nativity scene figures.
Genoa “lights up”, at Christmas, with many events in the city starting from December 1. Historical crèches and nativity scenes in museums and churches throughout the city, concerts of classical and sacred music in historical churches and palaces, Christmas markets and the traditional ceremony of the Confeugo, that commemorates the homage of the People’s Abbott to the Doge with the offer of a laurel stump that will be burnt.
