05-06-2016An original and peculiar artist, Alessandro Magnasco was reevaluated at the beginning of the 20th century. He is considered, in some ways, a precursor of Goya (1746 – 1828) and of the Expressionists, as well as one of the fathers of the taste for the macabre and the fantastic. In any case, his rich and varied work exceeds this description. The artist’s work is impressive for its extremely personal pictorial language as well as for its subject matter, which the painter faces in line with the new ideas spreading around Europe between the 17th and the 18th Century. Musei di Strada Nuova in Genoa, where the artist was born, the exhibition will gather more than 20 of Alessandro Magnasco’s works coming from public and private collections.
The exhibition, which was launched at Galerie Canesso in Paris on November 24, 2015, will be in Genoa at Musei di Strada Nuova - Palazzo Bianco, from February, 25 to June, 5 2016.
