MOG - Mercato Orientale di Genova

Called "Oriental" because it was located near the eastern door of the city of Genoa, it was inaugurated in 1899 and was going to occupy a space that according to the initial project of 1699 was intended for the cloister of the convent of N.S. della Consolazione. The market is adjacent to the shopping area of Genoa –one of its entrances is located in fact on the central Via XX Settembre - and it is very easy to get there both on foot and by bus. By car instead, is not easy to reach the market, is better to leave it a few meters away, we don’t have to forget we are in the city center!

As soon as you enter the Eastern Market, the view is brightened by the well displayed goods on the benches: fruit and vegetable compositions on display such as paintings, plants and fragrant flowers, the intense red of the meat, the blue of the fish caught during the day, and then cheese, bread and focaccia, fresh pasta, spices. A set of smells and flavors that captivates the palate and makes your mouth water. Here you can find the typical Ligurian products: basil Genoese DOP ingredient base of pesto, candidate to become intangible heritage of humanity UNESCO, the typical oil of the Ligurian Riviera, anchovies in salt of the Ligurian Sea.

The Eastern Market is a must for those who want to take home some typical products and want to live a real sensory experience.

The atmosphere is really special: is nice to take some time to relax among the benches and breathe the most authentic Genoa; stop to look at the sincere faces of the sellers, experience the wild soul of the Genoese, listen to their stories and their anecdotes
