Summer in Genoa: 10 things not to miss

Summer in Genoa: 10 things not to miss
Schools are over so you can breathe the summer air in Genoa! These following months will be full of events, which you can enjoy by standing under the rays of sunshine or in the cool night ocean-scented breeze. Art will attract you, music will charm you and the shows will leave you breatheless. Let’s discover which are the 10 things to do in the #genovamorethanthis’ summer!

The Porto Antico Estate Spettacolo festival kicks off a spectacular summer: for the “Estate Spettacolo” festival (until August 27th), the Ancient Port of Genoa hosts the Goa Boa, with famous artists such as Jethro Tull, Max Gazzè and Carl Brave, “Live in Genova”, “Ti Porto all’Opera” (I’ll take you to the Opera) and “Ridere d’Agosto Ma Anche Prima” (Laugh in August But Even Before).

Jump into a sea… of art! With the Doge’s Palace’s exhibitions you can learn about two of the most important artists in Italy: Emanuele Luzzati and Giorgio de Chirico. The first one, versatile, tireless and intense, is the centre of the Labirinto Luzzati’s exhibition, which stays under the portico of the Doge’s Palace until November 3rd. The second one is the protagonist of the exhibition named “Giorgio de Chirico. Il volto della metafisica”, which can be visited until July 7th. Instead, if your passion is the contemporary art, you can’t miss “Art Spaces. Gli spazi dell’arte”, in the beautiful and completely renovated Villa Croce. And for those who will visit #genovamorethanthis with their families? No problem, there is the Aquarium of Genoa!  A journey to explore the underwater life which can involve young and old, with the chance to know all the secrets about sharks, dolphins, penguins, manatees, jellyfishes, seals, tropical fishes and animals from Antarctica and to literally touch the rays! Be ready: Pesto, Pansoto and many others are waiting for you!

The music lovers can’t help attending the Notturni en plein air (open air night shows), a music festival which animate the splendid Dodge's Palace's Great Court with 5 appointments dedicated to as many talented pianists, from July 18th to August 15th.

Remaining in the town centre, thanks to the "Torre Grimaldina e le carceri segrete” event (Grimaldina Tower and the secret prisons), the Dodge’s Palace will open his doors to the visitors who are curious to know the secrets of that part of the structure: in fact, this has been used as jail for political prisoners, conspirators and anarchists from the 14th century to early 20th century. The itineraries inside the Palace will let you discover those signs and symbols which are related to Genoa’s history.

For sports enthusiasts, it is possible to explore the hidden corners of #genovamorethanthis by following the Wonderful Walking Genova’s ways. Three itineraries  – from Mura delle Cappuccine to Piazza Corvetto, then off to Villa Gruber and finally arriving at D’Albertis’ Castle – for a urban trail that winds in half between the mountains and the sea. You can choose if you prefer an enchanting walk or a few hours of sport in the city!
