Genoa is getting ready to celebrate the most colorful tradition of the year through many events and initiatives literally for everyone: here’s a list (in short) of all of them.
• Local Events
During the period of Carnival celebrations the whole city is animated by many events and festivals that fill its squares and streets with colors, music and fun. The initiatives are promoted by local institutions (CIV) and commerce associations. (Complete list of these local events here in Italian language)
• Monster Carnival Weekend: on the 2nd and the 3rd of March, the city Old Port, will be filled with fun, especially for children.
On Saturday, 2nd of March, the little ones will be amused by the creative workshop “Like a Robot” where they will discover the world of technology together with some of the most famous humanoid robots and their super powers. (Reservation required - 010248579)
Besides, in the evening if the same day, the Aquarium of Genoa will put on stage the shows “Alice in Monsterland Show” and “Alice beyond the mirror”. The shows will start at 8pm until 10pm, and they will be available for groups of fifty people maximum, departing every 20 minutes.
Places are limited so the reservation is required.
Lastly, on Sunday 3rd of March, there will be a free entrance event, “Kids Parade”, where all the children can join this amazing demonstration full of colors, fun, and magic shows.

• Carnival Ghost Tour
On Saturday, 2nd of March at 7pm in Piazza Matteotti, you will be able to lose yourself in the fascinating and captivating atmosphere of the Old City Centre and its “caruggi” (small and tight old streets), that will be the scenario of this amazing walking tour. While listening to some of the most famous Opera masterpieces, such as “The ghost of the Opera” and “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, you will be given the map of the Old Town and at 7:45pm you will start wandering around from one spot to another, discovering some of the most beautiful hidden gems of the city, like, for example, the Hangman’s House and many more.
At the end of the tour, the participants will have the opportunity to join the traditional Carnival Ball that will start at 9:30pm until 11:30pm.
• Carnival at the Genoese Museums
Museum of Oriental Art “Edoardo Chiossone”
Saturday, 9th of February and Saturday 23rd of February the Chiossone Museum will host an art and craft workshop for adults, where the participants will decorate traditional Carnival masks.
Every workshop will last approximately 2 hours and a half each, there will be 9 available places so the reservation is required.

Ligurian Archeology Museum
Sunday 10th and 17th of February, at 3:30 pm, the Ligurian Archeology Museum will host a children art-and-craft workshop called “Egyptian Masks”.

Each child must be accompanied by one adult at least.
Mu.Ma – Naval Museum of Pegli
Saturday ,23rd of February at 11:00 am, the Naval Museum will host a children Carnival workshop, “Snout in the air at the Museum”, intended for children from 6 to 12 years old.

Mu.Ma – Theater-Museum of Commenda di Prè
On Saturday, 2nd of March, at the Mu.Ma., from 11:00 am, will take place a thematic workshop called “Scherzi dal medioevo” (Jokes from the Middle Ages) intended for a children audience. The participants will have to solve riddles, find clues and they will get to know the history of the Commenda di Prè; the little “knights-to-be” that will manage to complete all the tasks will be rewarded with candies and treats.

MU.MA – The lighthouse of Genoa
On Sunday, 3rd of March at 3:30pm, the Genoa light house will host the traditional “Pentolaccia di Carnevale”. The meeting point will be the escalator inside of the Ferry Terminal (Terminal Traghetti) where will begin a trip through stories, traditions and facts about Carnival in Genoa and its origins.
Once arrived at the lighthouse, the children will have lots of fun playing with the “pentolaccia” and the families will have the possibility of admiring a breathtaking view from the panoramic terrace of the lighthouse.

MU.MA- Galata Museum
Sunday, 3rd of March at 11:00 am, the Galata Museum will host the workshop “Guess who’s hiding in the museum?” for children from 6 to 12 years old.The participants will get through adversity and incredible odds, and those who will succeed will be rewarded.

The Captain’s Piñata at D’Albertis’ Castle
On Tuesday, 5th of March, from 5pm to 8pm, the World Culture Museum – D’Albertis’ Castle, will host the workshop called “The Captain’s Piñata” where the children will be entertained by games and riddles across the rooms of the museum, discovering what and where is the piñata (pentolaccia). After the treasure hunt, there will be a Masquerade pizza party for the children and a happy hour+tasting for their parents.

MascherARTI al Museo – Nervi Museums, Modern Art Gallery
On Sunday, 10th of March from 11:30 am to 4:30pm the Modern Art Gallery of Genova Nervi will host a workshop where the participants will have the possibility of visiting the museum while wearing incredible Carnival costumes that will turn them into the same protagonists of the masterpieces on the walls of the gallery.
